Sara Heinz House

A Leed registered building, the Sara Heinz House was designed Rothchild Doyno Architects in conjunction with Pashek Associates, Landscape Architects. Completed in 2007, the site includes student vegetable gardens and educational garden plots. Native plantings not only beautify the site, but serve as part of a rainwater mitigation system. Rainwater harvested from the roof and stored in underground cisterns is used to provide supplemental irrigation for the site.

Wildflowers, cover crops, and shrubs were chosen for their nativity as well as their low maintenance habits. Cobblestone pavers and over 17,000 s.f. of stabilized aggregate also reduce run-off in hardscape areas. A handicap ramp was also integrated into the site, along with unique stone benches custom made and installed by Eisler Landscapes.
