CMU - Gates Science Center

As part of a $130 million project at CMU, the landscaping at the Gates Science Center, designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. increased greenspace on the site from 52,209 s.f. to 120,100 s.f. Completed in 2009, this project included multiple green roofs and rain gardens on a topographically challenging 5.6 acres in the heart of CMU's urban campus.

5000 Forbes Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15213

The landscaping includes the new West Quad, the Kraus Winter Garden, nearly 300 trees arranged in groves, and more than 2,000 new shrubs. Eisler Landscapes used engineered soils to create naturalistic contours and elevation changes. Native plants, and rare to unusual plants were used extensively throughout the site and were sourced by Eisler Landscapes.
