Shaler Municipal Demonstration Rain Garden

Built as a model for homeowners in the Shaler area, this rain garden was designed and installed by Eisler Landscapes with project management by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and funding provided by the PA Department of Environmental Protection through Section 319 of the Federal Clean Water Act administered by the US. Environmental Protection Agency. The rain garden was built in September 2011 to mitigate runoff from 3,000 s.f. of roof as well as 7,000 s.f. of sloped lawn.

300 Wetzel Road, Glenshaw, PA 15116

The garden was designed with a capacity of 29,174 gallons, enough to manage all of the runoff from a 60-minute, 1 year storm event, but preliminary observations show that it is outperforming this design criteria! Native plants and cultivars were used in the design and were specifically selected to attract pollenators, birds and butterflies for study by students at the nearby public schools. We look forward to seeing the growth of this garden in the coming seasons.
